Marjaneh Satrapi's Persepolis

I loved the book when it came out a few years ago. Now I cannot wait for the movie. The two trailer that are online are very promising. It seems the movie depicts my generation's childhood in a way no regular movie can capture.

The only thing about Marjaneh Satrapi that bothers me is her nationalism. Persepolis is a very bad name for the story. and the fact that she has changed her last name to "Satrapi" (a reference to Achaemenid satraps) says something about a meaningless pride for an ancient imperalist state that I cannot understand.

  1. I have seen it, it's very good. You are right, the name doesn't fit the story, but I don't think it's because of nationalism.

Are you sure she changed her name? What did she change her name from?

  4. I think she chose the name Persepolis to "attract" the people.
The name does not match the book at all.

  6. the characters' design and look are very simple and the animation is not that spectacular, but we enjoy watching a good story and I think that Persepolis is indeed a good story!

  8. Yeah, I believe that Persepolis is a misnomer as well. As far as the theme song goes, I will have to say, Survivor would be proud. LOL
