George Carlin on God and Religion

Can theologians take George Carlin seriously and give us a decent answer to his basic questions?

  1. GOD bless you by making me laugh!

I wish most of the Iranians who are living abroad would listen to this piece. Specially the ones who call their moms in Iran while living and studying in the west and tell her to make a "Nazr" for them so that they can pass their exam in the university !! Or just think about how the "Ghesmat" phenomenon dominates our culture.
    Irreparable???? What do you think?

  2. "Ghesmat" (the ultimate fatalistic view of the world very popular among the Iranians) and "Nazr" (bribing the god to change his decisions) are both very interesting, but my favorite is the Shiite concept of "Shafa'at". According to this strange belief the prophet, Imams, good muslims, and martyrs have the power to change god's decision in his final judgment (for sending them to hell) and are able to take their friends and relatives with them to paradise even if god had previously wanted them to be in hell!
Does it reminds you of the corrupted system of "paartibazi" in the Iranian government? ... not that surprising, because it is a reproduction of that system in the heaven.
"Thanks God" we, the infidels, are moral enough to go directly to hell!

  3. it is both surprising and encouraging that a relatively large audience was laughing along with his jokes. I wonder where he was performing, because it seems that these days this sort of performance could get you killed in the U.S.

  4. Listen to this sad story:

A kid was sexually abused for years. The kid is in a therapy. It helps him and he can deal with what happend to him quite well. This kid intends to becom a lawyer when he grows up so that he can condemn the people who sexually abuse the children . BUT there is one problem which he can't deal with. He cries and says, God will not take him to heaven for what was done to him.
I'm speechless. What can one say in this case?
