It's not a certain society that seems ridiculous to me, it's mankind.
--Eugene Ionesco (1912-1994)

  1. Is mankind so ridiculous to you that you've stopped posting? That would be sad.... hope you're just busy!

I finished Armstrong's "The Battle for God" and my curiousity has just been peaked. I saw "The Control Room" and much of the background from that book was useful.

In fact, I think your quotation fits that movie well. I'd recommend it if you haven't seen it.

  2. I'm just busy CK. Thanks for checking the blog.
I should see "Control Room." A few months ago I heard an interview with the director on NPR, and I really liked it.
What do you think about the book?
I like that book very much. I don't know about Judaism, or Christianity that much, but I can say Armstrong is very accurate about the Shi'a fundamentalism.

  3. Armstrong is very insightful about Christianity-- she doesn't stereotype fundamentalism as merely knee-jerk reactionism. I was impressed, having come from that sort of background myself.

I can only guess she is as comparatively accurate for Judaism as she is for the other two religions.

I have the beginnings of a review drafted for "The Control Room" which I'll post this weekend. After that is "The Corporation", which is next on my list.

  4. mankind can be very ridiculous sometimes.
